this is getting ridiculous

beautiful
okay, so i know it's 2:20 am... if you know me.. you know i'm not much for sleeping... but anyway, to the issue here.

i am SO sick and tired of watching the media exploit celebrities at younger and younger ages. now i'm not saying that the miley cyrus pictures were obscene, because i really don't think that they were. the problem was just in the person that the pictures were taken of. she knows she's involved with the DISNEY channel. and she knows that there is a plethora of young girls that look up to her. whoever made the final decision that the pictures were okay, has now lost any right to complain about them. there were people from disney on the set as well as her parents. i personally don't really see anything wrong with the pictures, but disney can't now come out and say anything about how they find these pictures unacceptable.

does anyone else think that this screams publicity?

because that's all i hear.

it's ridiculous. i mean, i feel like they're almost purposely setting her up into a situation that they'll be able to turn around and make scandalous. anyone else think that? if she weren't an entity of Disney, would this really be as big of a deal? there isn't indecent exposure. it's her BACK people. many people reveal more than that just walking down the street in the summertime!

just in general though, i think it's ridiculous how bad behavior gets you so much publicity. why is it that we live in a nation and a generation that thrives on scandal and deviousness? people can name all the things that Lindsay Lohan has been arrested for, or the number of times that Britney Spears has been in rehab, or the amount of time that Paris Hilton spent in jail, but how many of them can speak about the GOOD things that other celebrities are doing?

I will admit to frequenting perezhilton.com, because i do read the gossip. and although it's upsetting that he's able to make entire categories that are tagged things like "busted!", "knifestyles", "mugshot hall of fame", and "drugs", i'm always glad when i see things on the other end of the spectrum. things that fall in the category of "silly!", or the fact that he doesn't only dwell on CELEBRITY news, but brings real life things (political news in easy to understand terms, and current events) into his blog.

Why do we always have to dwell on the negative? Why isn't there more of a spotlight on the people who go to other countries and volunteer their time? When's the last time we heard about what Bono, an ultimate philanthropist and rights activist, was up to? Why are people like Al Gore and Leonardo DiCaprio who are fighting to help slow down global warming and save our PLANET pushed to a back burner so we can all gossip about whether or not Jennifer Love Hewitt has gained weight or not and if she looks fat in that bikini?

it's absurd that we ignore or downplay things that would restore our faith in humanity but will probably talk for weeks about Amy Winehouse's antics of answering a door to the paparazzi in her bra.

on another note, kinda getting back to something i touched on earlier, do the people who act in such a reckless fashion not realize how many young girls and boys idolize or look up to them?

i used to think that Lindsay Lohan was an amazing actress.

i've lost pretty much all respect for her.

i think Amy Winehouse has an absolutely amazing voice.

so why is she flushing that down the toilet?

there are so many people who are in the spotlight who have amazing gifts, but decide that partying or getting high, or being controversial is more important. it just doesn't make sense to me why you would want to live like that.

Emmy Rossum, Emma Watson, Alicia Keys, Fiona Apple, Amanda Bynes, Brittany Snow, Anne Hathaway, Ashley Tisdale... you don't see their name in the news all that much. guess it's because there aren't pictures of them downing a fifth of vodka and flashing a camera in a club somewhere.

and you can use the "everyone makes mistakes" excuse. and YES they do. but when it happens over and over again, or you lie to make yourself seem the victim, then it doesn't work.

maybe if our society wasn't so driven by sex and controversy, people would be famous for talent. and they'd do good things with their money, like help those less fortunate, or help to solve crises that are going on in this world. instead of flushing the money down the toilet where they hide their plastic bag of drugs. maybe then people wouldn't be famous based solely on the fact that they had a sex tape or that even though they've admitted to having an eating disorder, they'd rather slowly kill themselves than weigh more than 100 pounds.

do you think that's why some girls have such low self esteem? i know i constantly look at myself in the mirror and think if my stomach was only a bit flatter. or if my breasts were just a bit smaller. my face prettier, that i'd be beautiful. but there will always be something wrong, because the media and society tells me that i'm not good enough. i'm a 19 year old girl. i'll never be good enough.

those were my 2...3 AM rantings... if it wasn't that fluid, sorry, i've written up such a frenzy, that i think i may be able to sleep now. if i ever reach a height of celebrity where people know my name, and start to act like the people that i've criticized, i ask that someone please slap me and show me this entry.

it'll be best that way
